Aaron Jones case: Body found wrapped in blanket may be missing boy, 13

LAS VEGAS - Las Vegas police say an investigation indicated that a decomposing body found in a patch of desert along a highway may be a 13-year-old boy who was recently reported missing.

Police say the officially unidentified body found Tuesday was wrapped in a blanket and tarp and covered with large rocks.

Lt. Dan McGrath says two cousins of a missing 13-year-old boy who had been searching the area for clues to his whereabouts were the ones who discovered the body.

Aaron Jones was reported missing on April 14 and lived near where the body was found. According to the Las Vegas Police Department, family members hadn't seen Jones since December 2016. McGrath says the state of decomposition suggests the person had been dead for some time.

The Clark County Coroner's Office will identify the body.

The Las Vegas Sun reports that Jones' father, Paul Jones, is currently in jail on an unrelated child abuse case. The 31-year-old reportedly told the newspaper that he last saw his son "a couple months ago" but didn't report the boy missing because he had a warrant for his arrest. 

The paper reports that Jones said he looked for his son and denies having any involvement in his disappearance.
