Police: Tenn. store clerk slain, murder suspect on the run with missing teen
NASHVILLE -- An Amber Alert has been issued for a Tennessee teen girl believed to be with the suspect accused of killing a Nashville store clerk Tuesday, reports CBS affiliate WTVF.
Metro Nashville Police officials said 28-year-old Daniel Clark has been identified as the suspect who fatally shot 58-year-old clerk John Daniel Stevens during a robbery at an Exxon.
Clark was believed to be with the 15-year-old, Trinity Quinn, who is from the east Tennessee town of Dayton. Quinn went missing Monday after getting on a bus to her high school, the station reports.
Quinn was seen on surveillance video with Clark Tuesday at the scene of the Nashville murder, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Quinn appeared to be shopping for a short time before Clark pulled out a gun and shot the clerk, reports the Tennessean. The two then left the store.
Clark's Pontiac minivan was recovered in a parking lot near the Exxon where the shooting occurred. Police said both Clark and Quinn are now believed to be on foot. A manhunt is underway in the west Nashville area.
An endangered child alert was previously issued but has now been updated to an Amber Alert. The TBI says Clark is considered armed and dangerous and Quinn is in imminent danger of bodily injury or death.
Residents were being asked to lock their doors and call 911 if they spot the pair.
Police had initially considered Quinn a runaway, reports WRCB in Chattanooga. The girl's mother Stephanie Reed told the station Clark is a family friend and she believes her daughter was manipulated into leaving home with him. She said some of her daughter's clothing and makeup is missing.
"We love you. We miss you. Your brother misses you, your sister misses you. Just please come home," said Reed.
