Harrison Ford was injured Thursday during filming on the next "Star Wars" movie.

"Harrison Ford sustained an ankle injury during filming today on the set of 'Star Wars: Episode VII.' He was taken to a local hospital and is receiving care," a statement from Lucasfilm said. "Shooting will continue as planned while he recuperates."

Ford is reprising his role as Han Solo for the J.J. Abrams-directed "Episode VII," alongside Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker and Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia. The trio will co-star alongside franchise newcomers Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Daisy Ridley, Domhnall Gleeson, Max Von Sydow, Gwendoline Christie and Lupita Nyong'o.

The film's plot has been kept under wraps, but it will take place 30 years after "Return of the Jedi."

"Star Wars: Episode VII" will arrive in theaters on Dec. 18, 2015.
