Nick Jonas told fans on Twitter over the weekend that he's in the running to join the show's judging panel.

"The rumors are true...I am being considered to be a judge on 'American Idol' and it would be a dream come true if it happens. #nickonidol," he tweeted on Saturday.

The 19-year-old added in another Twitter message: "Loved seeing all your amazing response to#NickOnIdol keep it coming!"

If Jonas signs on for "Idol," he'd be filling one of the seats left open by departing judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez. Country singer Brad Paisley and rapper Pharrell Williams are also reported to be in the running.

Last month, Mariah Carey inked a deal to serve as a judge on the show's 12th season. According to Entertainment Weekly, there's no word yet on whether original "Idol" judge Randy Jackson will return.

Jonas appeared on Broadway earlier this year in the revival of "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," and had a role on the NBC series "Smash."
