Oscars 2016: Gray and blue dresses take over red carpet
Many actresses were feeling the blues at the 88th Academy Awards -- at least when it came to their dresses.
Best Actress nominee Brie Larson set the tone with a royal ruffled Gucci dress with a silvery belt.
Sofia Vergara followed suit in a navy blue gown from Marchesa that had beaded details and pleats in all the right places for the actress' famous curves.
Patricia Arquette wore a simple deep blue fitted dress with a pleated, off-the-shoulder neckline, while Mindy Kaling wore a two-tone off-the-shoulder black gown with a cascading royal blue train and sleeves.
Naomi Watts sparkled in an ombré blue and purple, fully sequined column dress. Saoirse Ronan also wore all sequins in her deep emerald gown that also boasted a plunging neckline. She made a subtle statement with her mismatched Chopard earrings -- one was in white pearls, and the other in emeralds.
Another popular shade for the red carpet was gray. Daisy Ridley wore a sparkly 20s-inspired look with beading and a subtle tulle peplum.
Rooney Mara went for a paler shade of gray in her Givenchy Haute Couture, which was sheer and long-sleeved and had a cutout in the center. The dress looked vaguely Victorian with its higher neckline, buttons, ruffles and embroidery.
Style star Cate Blanchett bucked the trend in a light teal Armani Prive dress with beading and dozens of silk flower petals. Lady Gaga also did her own thing with a sateen, pleated white strapless jumpsuit, while Alicia Vikander channeled Belle from "Beauty and the Beast" in a yellow, beaded princess gown by Louis Vuitton.
As far as fashion misses, Heidi Klum looked like a ball of purple cotton candy in her lilac Versace gown that stacked layers and layers of tulle on each other.
