Queen Elizabeth II visited a grocery store
During a visit to Cornwall to unveil a statue of her mother, Queen Elizabeth II took a detour to a place she’s rarely visited -- a supermarket.
The reigning monarch paid a visit to a Waitrose grocery store in the town of Poundbury while there to dedicate Queen Mother Square, the town’s new district center.
But first, some shopping. The Queen met the staff and browsed the aisles, with Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, following along as she inspected local products, gift baskets and the automated self-checkout -- which seemed to confound her a bit.
The Queen was particularly taken with the selection at the cheese counter, according to those on hand.
It’s not clear if she or any of her family members actually purchased anything.
